Decided we were ready to risk eating tonight so went up to the cafe with some of the others. The food was absolutely delicious; the main part was couscous [which we normally find rather bland and uninteresting] but this had been properly steamed and was served with a variety of vegetables, pieces of chicken and some baked chutney sauce on top. There were two other sauces that you could add if you wished – very, very nice but we didn’t dare eat too much.
Then in came Moulard [who is a world famous singer] and his band and guess who came and sat down to play with them – Benni [also relative of Hamid, carpet trader and chief guide]! Benni seems to have his fingers in all the pies around here!
The band was brilliant. Moulard played the guitar and sang at first, very hauntingly, but then they moved on to more typical African drumbeat music. Eventually, we were all dragged up on the floor to join in the fun – AFRICA!
N.B.
So far, for much of the time, we have felt that we are in a place somewhere between Europe and Asia what with the Spanish and French influence all around us, and the Islamic religion. When Benni was guiding us around today, he would quite often end his little speeches with the word “Africa” and one of the songs tonight featured the word “Africa” a lot in the chorus. Tonight, for the first time, it has really begun to feel like Africa, sitting in a courtyard, looking up at the moon and listening to the drumbeat.

David has just stepped aboard the van again and declared, “We are not buying anything else, we’ve bought half of Morocco already and everytime we buy something we get ripped off!”
Does this mean I’ll be safe in the desert where they swap camels for wives?!
