Chefchaouen – and the carpet-seller’s emporium!

They call Chefchaouen the “Blue Town” and it is stunning! It is all steep, winding streets with blue/indigo/mauve limewashed buildings. We wandered around them for ages before finally bumping into Selwyn and Linda and finding our way into the main square. Took loads of photos, a small selection of which are included here – it has to be seen to be believed! Whilst still lost in the alley ways, David and found ourselves being lured by “nephew” into “uncle’s” carpet shop. We were given the full sales pitch including a glass of mint tea despite having made it very clear to both nephew and uncle that we had only just arrived in Morocco and were not in a position to buy a carpet. They were very hospitable, gave us three thousand welcomes and told us a lot about the Berbers and how the women make the carpets up in the mountains. At one point, Uncle even rolled himself up in a carpet to show how Berbers kept warm at night! How we managed to get out of there without buying a carpet, I’m not sure!
